Bachelor of Fisheries Science (BFSc.)

                               BSc Fisheries is an undergraduate degree suitable for students interested in studying about fishes and other creatures in the sea.The course duration is 4 years ,including one semester of Compulsory rotating internship. Fishery science deals with the study of life, habits and breeding of various species of fish. Fish breeding and hatcheries is a developing industry. Fishing in high seas, preservation and marketing of sea products need the service of a lot of trained  professionals.With the development in tourism and popularity of sea foods among foreigners, fisheries Science has a lot of scope . Prawn farming is done on large scale especially for exporting. Fish preservation, freezing, canning is done in the coastal and inland factories and are gaining a lot of importance.The career opportunities in both the private and public sector in India and abroad attract the students to these courses.There are job opportunities in the State Fisheries Department, universities, private farms, hatcheries, seafood export units and as consultants in various organisations in India and abroad. Many career opportunities are also available for fisheries graduates as entrepreneurs in farming, seed production and export of marine products and ornamental fishes. Research is on other option available after Master’s in Fisheries Science . Fish genetics and biotechnology are mojor areas which has much scope for research.
