Engineering is the course of the day, for those who have completed plus two in Science stream which offers ample job opportunities within the country and abroad .It is the most opted course by youngsters within our country and all over the world. Engineering with its vast branches and field of development fulfils the growing requirements of the global market.
There are various government, aided and self-financing engineering colleges in Kerala. The major universities in Kerala to which engineering colleges are affiliated to are Kerala University, CUSAT, Mahatma Gandhi University, Calicut University and Kannur University. All recognized engineering college should have the approval of All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and should be affiliated to one of the above mentioned respective university. Students who scores rank up to 3000 (in General category) in Common Entrance Examination (CEE) can get admission in various Government Engineering colleges. For those students who miss the opportunity to study in a government college will have to choose the best self-financing college that equip them to compete with the students who pass out from government colleges. Unfortunately the general trend is that, for the sake of getting admission in a desired branch students and parents randomly choose self-financing colleges without analyzing the credibility and quality of the college. Thus, choosing a good college is as relevant as choosing a desired branch .We can generalize that most of the self-financing colleges were established between the period of 1999 to 2000.So there is not much relevance in analyzing the year of establishment of college in choosing it. The criteria for selecting the college should be its affiliation, credibility, infrastructure, quality of faculties, lab facilities, placement activities, industry oriented training programs offered, study environment etc. We will now discuss about the various engineering branches (with branch codes) available in these colleges in Kerala.
