Civil Engineering

Civil Engineering is another evergreen core branch of Engineering. The course basically involves the study of planning, designing and implementation of structures like bridges, dams, airports, sea ports, highways, inland waterways, industrial plants etc. Civil engineers also construct urban structures such as commercial complexes, tunnels, bridges, roads, urban rapid transport systems, sports stadia, water sewages and so on. Some of you might have a confusion between civil engineering and B.Arch. course. Civil Engineering is basically deals with building infrastructure. Architecture course focuses on  how to design and make layouts.A Civil Engineer uses the designs created by Architecture and decides how to implement it. If you have got interest in designing building structures, have aptitude in maths ,have supervisory and administrative skills and have willingness to work out at construction sites civil engineering will be the best branch for you. The growth in economy with the advent of multinational engineering companies and boom in construction sector has given high demand for  civil engineering course. The infrastructure and real estate industries are booming and requirements for the civil graduates are increasing gradually in India as well as abroad.  Civil engineers can get employment in  major construction projects carried out by central and state government agencies. After gaining experience, you can start your own engineering consultancy. Civil engineers can find employment in various consultancy firms, road projects, infrastructure works, housing societies, etc carried out by public and private sector companies. You can also enter teaching field after doing M.Tech. Those who have interest in research activities can do Ph.D as well.
